Park Planning Process

- Citizen's Advisory Commitee for parks
- A Citizen's Advisory Commiteehas been formed for the Master Planning of the
Parks in Shady Side, these parks include:
- Franklin Point,
- Jack Creek
- Shady Cove Natural Area
- Shady Side Park
- Snug Harbor Park
- September 30, 2003 Shady Side/Franklin Point Parks Committee
- The Shady Side/Franklin Point Parks Committee will meet on Tuesday,
September 30 at Shady Side Elementary School at 7:30 p.m.
- The full environmental report has been completed and will be presented here.
The report is to be posted on the DNR website and will be linked here when it is available.
- Franklin Point-Shady Side Park environmental report.
- This committee of Shady Side
residents and other citizens of the County was appointed by Parks &
Recreation to develop a "master plan" for parks on the Shady Side
peninsula. This meeting (and subsequent meetings of the group) is open
to the public. Anyone who is interested in this subject, particularly
Franklin Point, should consider attending.

This committee was formed with 10-12 People picked by County Officials with recommendations
from the new county council person for district 7 and nominations submitted by citizens.
Schedule:
Approx. 1 Dec 2002 the County's Consultant should begin the Environmental Study.
The draft should include wetlands delineation, animal studies, forest dileantion, flood plain dileantion, etc...
The citizen's committee will first meet in the Spring of 2003. At that time March/April the consultants "Draft"
Environmental Report should be available for the committee to study and make comments.
The citizen's committee should meet about once a month with occassional
field trips to the park areas. The commitment to this committee is expected to last approx. 6 - 8 months.
- Franklin Point Park
- Money for master plan for Franklin Point Park
and several other parks in Shady Side has been included in the County's
2003 Budget. The County Council has approved the budget as it stands;
the master planning process will begin later in the fiscal year.
A committee will be formed (see above) which the county says will include community
representation to determine the best use of the Park within the broader
recommendations/guidance provided in the Deale/Shady Side Small Area Plan.
- Walking Path at the Shady Side Recreation Area
- This year the County's Recreation & Parks Department constructed
a walking trail along the perimeter of the single ball field to the east
of Ford Road. County Health Department funding was acquired for this
project.
- Ball Field Lighting
- Recreation & Parks is planning to improve field lighting on the single ball field east of
Ford Road. This project is expected to be completed during the summer.
- Shady Side Walking / Canoe Path
- Planned for the Shady Side Elementary / Discovery Village Area / Idlewilde Area;
The Discovery Village portion of the Eco-Path will proceed before the county
takes action according to Adam Hewison, while the County starts to prepare
and plan out their portion of the path, which may take a year or two (The
wheels of Govt. turn slowly).
